๐Ÿ† Champions League

A perfect night for Real Madrid's Thibaut Courtois.

Real Madrid claimed a 14th Champions League title after a slender win over Liverpool at the Stade de France.

Vinicius Junior scored the decisive goal as Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0 in a delayed Champions League final in Paris on Saturday.

Kick-off was pushed back by more than 30 minutes as Liverpool fans struggled to gain entry to the Stade de France, eventually taking their places to see Jurgen Klopp's men control much of the proceedings.

But Madrid got the vital goal in the 59th minute when Vinicius tucked away his fourth of this season's competition – from one of just four Blancos attempts.

Premier League runners-up Liverpool were denied by a string of superb saves from Thibaut Courtois either side of that strike, and Carlo Ancelotti's side held on to lift the European Cup for a 14th time – seven more than any other side.

Liverpool had started in confident mood following the delay and only failed to take the lead inside the opening 20 minutes courtesy of two fine stops from Courtois.

The Real Madrid goalkeeper got down quickly to keep out Mohamed Salah's instinctive effort, before he superbly pawed Sadio Mane's powerful strike onto the post.

Madrid thought they had taken the lead shortly before the interval when Karim Benzema stroked home after some slapstick defending from Liverpool, yet it was ruled out for offside against the France international – the decision confirmed by the VAR after a lengthy review.

They were not to be denied just before the hour mark, however, when Vinicius stole in behind Trent Alexander-Arnold to turn in Federico Valverde's low ball across the penalty area.

Courtois made three vital saves from Salah inside the final 20 minutes – the last of which really caught the eye – to cap a wonderful individual display and ensure Ancelotti's men claimed a record-extending triumph.

Franck Kessie bids farewell to AC Milan.

Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie has said goodbye to AC Milan ahead of completing his free transfer to Barcelona this summer.

The 25-year-old allowed his contract to wind down before reaching an agreement with Barcelona earlier this year, but he leaves San Siro on a high after making 31 appearances in their Serie A title-winning campaign.

"After five years, I couldn't have hoped to end this great experience in a better way," Kessie wrote. "A unique emotion: we are Italian champions!

"Proud to have worn this glorious jersey and to have shared this journey with fantastic team-mates. Thank you for everything, thank you all!."

Kessie is expected at Camp Nou in the near future to seal his move to Barcelona alongside fellow free agent Andreas Christensen, who has agreed to leave Chelsea this summer.

Lautaro hopes free agent Di Bala will go wherever he pleases.

Lautaro Martinez does not know where interconnected forward Paolo Di Bala will play next season but hopes he will be "wherever he pleases".

Dibala's contract with Juventus is coming to an end, making him one of the most preferred free agents in the upcoming transfer window.

Detailed reports suggest he could join Inter teammate Martinez at Inter - although the Nerazzurri striker is also the subject of speculation.

But with the pair taking charge of the national team, Martinez insisted the future of Dibala's club was set.

"We haven't touched on the matter," Martinez told TC Sports. "We talk a lot about his situation and everything, but today he is thinking about the national team.

"Once these games are over, his future will be decided.

"He is a player with quality, personality and I hope he will play where he feels most comfortable, where he will be happy."

Martinez has also focused on his role with Argentina, waiting for the World Cup in Qatar later this year - the first of his Albiceleste career.

"[The World Cup] has been my dream since I was a child," Martinez said. "With my family, I keep talking about it - they're all football fans.

"If I think about what could happen now, the anxiety comes to me. I hope we can make a good impression.

"These have always been your dreams. First your dream of becoming a professional, then they are seen anew. Today I am a few months away from this [dream]; I hope it can be fulfilled and I can help my teammates."

Earlier, in early June, Wembley had Argentina's final against Italy, to compete for the Copa America winners against European champions - an eagerly awaited match for Italy-based Martinez, even if Azzuri would not. In Qatar

"It will be an important game for us because what the opponents mean is that they have been eliminated from this World Cup," he said.

"We know their characteristics, their players, they are top-level opponents. We have a very important test ahead of us to see where we stand."

Mane reveals Man Utd transfer was 'all agreed' before 2016 Liverpool move.

Ahead of Saturday's Champions League final, Liverpool's Sadio Mane spoke of how he rejected Manchester United to join the Reds in 2016.

Sadio Mane has revealed he came close to joining Manchester United in 2016, agreeing a contract with the Red Devils before making a last-minute decision to join Liverpool after a call from Jurgen Klopp.

Mane has scored 23 goals in 50 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions this term, helping Klopp's team to win the EFL Cup and FA Cup trophies, while the Reds could yet add the Champions League when they face Real Madrid in Saturday's final in Paris.

The 30-year-old scored when Liverpool faced Madrid in the 2018 final in Kyiv, though substitute Gareth Bale netted a brace to condemn Klopp's side to a 3-1 defeat.

Liverpool are bidding to win their seventh European crown at the Stade de France, and Mane has been touted as a potential Ballon d'Or contender after also firing Senegal to their first Africa Cup of Nations title earlier this year.

However, things could have been very different for Mane, who said he had the chance to join Liverpool's rivals United when he departed Southampton in 2016.

Speaking to former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher in an interview for the Telegraph, Mane recalled how a phone call from Klopp, who had attempted to sign him for former club Borussia Dortmund on a previous occasion, saw his head turn.

"I have to say, I was really close to going to Manchester United," Mane said. "I had the contract there. I had it all agreed.

"It was all ready, but instead I thought, 'no, I want to go to Liverpool'. I was convinced to go with Klopp's project.

"I still remember the first time I got the call from Klopp. He said, 'Sadio, listen, I want to explain to you what happened at Dortmund'.

"That was when he thought of signing me for Dortmund and for some reason, it didn't work out. He tried to explain and I said, 'it's okay, it happened'. I forgave him.

"Then he said, 'now I want you at Liverpool', and I said, 'okay, Dortmund is behind us, let's focus on the future'. He said, 'we have a big project at Liverpool and I want you to be part of it'."

Mane scored in both legs of Liverpool's Champions League semi-final win over Villarreal, setting up the Reds' ninth European Cup/Champions League meeting with Madrid.

Having won the first three such contests between 1981 and 2009, however, Liverpool are winless in the last five (one draw, four defeats), including their 2018 final loss.
